Group Equipment Stores

There are numerous opportunities for Scouts to achieve their Quartermaster Badge whilst helping maintain our equipment. Simply attend enough equipment repair sessions and over time you'll find you've completed the badge! Regular attendees can log their progress on the board in the workshop. Equipment repair sessions can also be used for the skills section of the DofE Awards. Talk to us if you wish to do this. Each year we record the number of hours you spend helping repair our camping equipment. The patrol with most hours at the end of the year gets first choice of camping equipment for summer camp. Tuesday 13th February 2018

With the help of George, the hoover, we brushed and mopped the floor of the main hall and the top of the stairs. The office and sink area were also tided, and the door mat freed of accumulated mud and leaves.

Sunday 11th February 2018

Today's lightly attended session (thanks Will & Freddie!) was primarily focused on bike servicing - predominately simple matters such as tire pressure, gears, and brakes - in preparation for the Year 8 Training Weekend next week. By the end of the afternoon, all but three bikes, which require professional attention, were in working condition.

In addition, we checked and numbered the new Tristar and Vango tents, although the latter still lack any poles! The Sick Tent (no. 140) was also checked in preparation for Summer Camp.

I'm conscious the blog has fallen by the way, so it's time to restart!

The focus today was on dining shelters, with the sewing machine in use for the first time in a couple of years. By the end of the session we had nine shelters back operational, many with new guy lines & repaired corners. Those working on their QM badge also learnt how to do a tuck splice and heat seal ropes.

Saturday 12th November 2011

A slightly better attended session than last time saw us give a thorough check, and some repairs, to all the heavy tent poles - the first time this has been done for a year or two. We seem to be missing 103s in their entirety and one pole from 121 if anyone has any ideas?!

Poles complete, we moved onto Tilley Lamps. None of those we took to camp last summer worked effectively! By the end of the session we had three up and running well, helped by the pile of new spare parts Rob has collected off e-bay!

Bring your sewing kits for the next one - we can't put the ridge loops off for much longer!

Not noted for a high attendance - Pete, Rob & Ben! - still got the downstairs stores sorted out and did a bit of work on sorting trangias & primi for forthcoming meetings & activities.

Complete check of all the dining shelters & lats for camp - we have enough dining shelters to run camp despite not having repaired last years weather damaged ones. We think we've now sorted all the major equipment ready for camp.

Thursday 7th April 2011 - Mess Tent reproofing

After 20 years the mess tent has started leaking badly - hopefully with a new layer of "proofing" now scrubbed in it will perform rather better.
